Baja packing list (Ventaneros only)

“When opening the overhead baggage compartments, be extremely cautious as some bags might have shifted during our flight to  Porvenir.”
You might not ever hear those words when it comes to Porvenir, but I would suggest using some caution when packing your bags for your six-month journey.  This list is meant to offer guidance and by no means […]

Departure Day for Baja

Howdy from Seattle.
It’s supposed to snow again today and we’re loving it. This is the weather we were hoping for given we have about 360 days of sunshine a year in Porvenir. We’ve had a blast thus far (and we still have a week to go).

To our intercessors,
For most of you who are on our prayer team, I have been remiss in giving you a follow-up regarding our time with the staff from Mission Springs almost two weeks past. After they left our family took a few days to unwind a bit, invite a few friends in Porvenir over for […]

Cloud by day, Fire by night

Regrettably the rains have receded for a few days now. The roads are still a tad muddy still, but life as we understand it in Porvenir is returning to some of the normal routines.

Since paintballs weren’t invented as yet, each fall my playmates and I used to fill old socks with pomegranates during our weekend WW2 reenactments. When thrown from an imagined bunker or pillbox, they created authentic blood stains making it easy to keep tally at the end of the game. To cap our exciting […]

November Update: “Know Sweat”

You’ve probably heard before that girls don’t sweat, they glisten. This notion might hold true for those gals that are sent off to finishing schools in Alabama, but the Ventanero girls understand and experience smelly armpits and moist brows all the time.

For our oldest son’s recent birthday, dear friends took him to Toys-R-Us and said, “Pick out a toy.” Initially he looked puzzled, but as the reality sunk in a huge smile stretched across his face.  They said he paced almost every toy isle reflecting on the perfect gift to cap his special day.
